Weathering and Erosion

Weathering is the breaking down or wearing away of landforms on the spot.  Unlike erosion there is no transportation of material involved.  Erosion is the breaking down or wearing away of landforms, the transportation of the eroded material and its deposition elsewhere.  There are three types of weathering – mechanical weathering e.g. freeze-thaw action, chemical weathering e.g. carbonation, and biological weathering....
