Chapter Two

Chapter two is a more detailed chapter yet it can be essentially divided into two parts - non legislative methods of solving consumer conflicts and legislative methods of solving consumer conflicts. The easiest way to introduce yourself to studying this topic in my opinion is to make a mind map outlining the key elements of this chapter. There is no point learning a lot of theory for the National Consumer Agency for example if you do not know if it is a legislative/ non legislative method of solving consumer conflict. A mind map like this will also come in handy the night before the exam for quick revision.

Consumer conflict in Leaving Cert

Chapter Three

Chapter three deals with Industrial Relations Conflict (Chap 3) it is vital to ensure you know the difference between the legislative/ non legislative methods of resolving conflict, as this is essentially what the chapter comprises of. The different types of industrial action such as sympathetic strike, work to rule etc. are also important for possible short questions.

An example of this was the 2011 Q7: ‘Outline two types of industrial action that employees could take in an attempt to get employers to meet their demands’ It is well worth putting time into learning this chapter properly as industrial relations have made an appearance on the exam paper 8 times in the past 10 years.
